(1)Since 2002 clean rooms are now classified according to an ISO classification system. No longer terms such as 10 000 k or 100 000 k are used to denote the maximum permitted number of particles that are to be found per cubic meter in a clean room “at rest”. Clean rooms and associated controlled environments classification of air cleanliness replaces previous standards. It use a system of ISO classes 1-9,9 being the highest (worst) classification. One of the key differences in the new system is that it does not take account of particles above 5 um.
